Emmy Award winning filmmaker, Allan Holzman, has enjoyed success in both the feature and documentary arenas as both director and editor. Under the tutelage of renowned producer Roger Corman, Allan honed his directing and editing skills on groundbreaking independent movies such as BATTLE BEYOND THE STARS, which he edited, and his directorial debut, MUTANT (a.k.a. FORBIDDEN WORLD), winner of the Paris International Film Festival of Science Fiction and Fantasy. After helming three action films, OUT OF CONTROL, GRUNT! THE WRESTLING MOVIE and PROGRAMMED TO KILL, Allan moved into the suspense genre with Deborah Harry on Showtime's highest rated movie, INTIMATE STRANGER.

Seeking a change from the "B" movie world, Allan's first adventure into documentaries, won the Governor's Emmy for the TNT six-hour mini-series, THE NATIVE AMERICANS, which he edited and supervised. Allan's next excursion earned him two Emmy Awards as both director and editor of Steven Spielberg's SURVIVORS OF THE HOLOCAUST. The film also earned CableACE and Peabody Awards.

Allan's feature documentaries, OLD MAN RIVER (based on a one woman play) and SOUNDS OF MEMPHIS (produced by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) earned a combined eight best documentary film awards. In addition, his editing efforts on the two films were recognized with an American Cinema Editors Eddie Award and nomination. He received a third ACE Eddie nomination for his editing on the TV movie, APOLLO 11, for which he also directed second unit.

His latest producer/director/editor efforts are the feature documentary, MY MARILYN, an intimate look into the life of Marilyn Monroe and the two part series, THE INDIAN BOARDING SCHOOLS: KEEPING THE CULTURE ALIVE (part one: BEYOND THE MESAS, part two: BEAUTIFUL RESISTANCE) featuring the Hopi people and leading contemporary Native American artists.

He has also edited, REFUSENIK, a feature documentary about the Jewish emigration movement in the U.S.S.R. to be released in 2008 and produced, directed and edited a 23 minute documentary, GULLAH, about the descendants of the original slaves who are attempting to preserve the land and culture of their ancestors. He is the publisher and producer of a childrenŐs book and claymation short, ONAMI, based on a Zen Koan.

Allan is a graduate of Bennington College and The American Film Institute. He has served on the Board of Directors of American Cinema Editors for seven years, creating and producing the annual event and documentary, INVISIBLE ART/VISIBLE ARTISTS, featuring the Academy Award nominated film editors of 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. He is a native of Baltimore, Maryland and teaches film editing at USC.
